The EMOness of it all

Lately I've been getting really disturbed with this new word 'Emo' I've been seeing around a lot. Bothered me so much I just had to research on it... and from what I've found, Emo isn't something new. It's been around for quite some time now and it's been used to define a certain type of Punk music and it's trend.

So why the heck is it becoming so popular now? And why're people using it so much and hating it?

I know I've used it before in one of my posts, but that's cause someone indirectly called me an 'emo', and seeing as I was feeling really down and angry at that time, I took the word as a bad thing. But now I see it more rampant now, and people are in a way 'bitching' about it.

Emo is actually short for emotional, but it's mostly referred to a certain genre, like punk music. It's also referred to as a fashion style that came from that genre. What makes emo different and why people follow it is because it usually involves being emotional and stuff. And seeing as in someway you could always relate to the lyrics in emo music, people are bound to follow it in someway.

Now seeing as I'm pretty emotional myself, I do enoy emo music. But I don't follow their trends on long bangs that cover your eyes and piercings and stuff. I just like it cause... I pretty much like music, especially those I can relate with.

But now as time slowly turns, emo is now being seen as a bad thing. I saw a video on youtube where the creator was all out against emo people who think they're just a bunch of people who love to follow trends. The creator also said that they're not being different and all and that they're just looking stupid. I saw another video on newgrounds and was shocked to see the creator refer to emo's as those who cry easily and cut themselves and think the whole world is against them.

I never knew being emo was that bad.

Although I don't go around following trends, I do cry easily, I did cut myself before and at one point did think the whole world is against me. And now to other people who think they're 'normal', they think that these people are merely looking for attention.

For one thing, I didn't cry or cut myself to look for attention. I was really really depressed. But now because of that, and whenever I rant, people will now refer to me as emo, and am looking for attention.

Whatever did happen to getting to know your emotional side? It looks like people just want to carry on stereotyping others and have a good time insulting them. Like when geeks were once seen as pathetic, people sure had a good time insulting them. Now look who's laughing... being a geek is now pretty cool now that the internet is on the move.

I don't like people who always put up an act. But that doesn't mean I want to create videos or forums or other stuff to show just how much I hate them. Cause you see, as much as I dislike them, I don't want hate to rule me. There's much more important things in life for me than to hate something.

You know, it's this hate that will always continue to create barriers between people. All this stereotyping and stuff... Ok, sure, there are emos out there who're just acting cause they like it and stuff. But that doesn't mean all emo people are jerks. In fact, being emo can be kind of cool if people would just be a little bit more open minded than having narrow minds which a lot of people seem to have lately.

So the next time you see someone who's different from you, why don't you just try to understand that person first before you start hating that person just for existing.

Lord, help me to accept people
For who they are and what they're worth
For I know You created each individual uniquely
So teach me, Lord, to accept these differences
Do not let me drown in hatred
And I pray that all people would accept each other
And no longer live in anger and hatred for each other

p.s. A big hug to Mel. I love you lots girl and no matter what you call yourself, I still love you. ^^

Take care and God bless.
