Ryoori... DAME!

Well, now that the holidays are upon me, I decided to try and spend some time at home and do my chores. I've been planning a lot of things to do at home, but it just doesn't seem to go how I planned it.

Last Saturday, my grandfather was around. My sister had to go for sparring while my parents were at work so it's up to me to fix lunch.

So I prepared to cook Vindaloo. I was half awake at that time because I was up all night online and had to wake up early to take care of my grandfather. So while putting the ingredients into the pot, I realised that I mixed things up. Panicking, I prayed that it would still be ok.

Then I realised that I needed to buy veggie. Thinking that I'd be gone for only 10 minutes and that I could leave the pot cooking as I run to buy vegetables, I cycled off.

Big mistake.

When I got back, I could smell the vindaloo burning in the pot from as far as my gate. I rushed to the pot and... yup... it burned. Everything was stuck to the bottom of the pot, so I added hot water. At that moment, all I could think of was 'Oh no, Dad's gonna kill me. And what's Grampa supposed to eat???' I mixed and mixed till I knew it was 'cooked'. I didn't want to taste it... I knew it'd taste bad anyway.

Tasha came back and saw the horror that I created, thus she helped me fix it by adding some beef stock to it. But we both knew that it was far beyond saving.

Still half asleep, tired, drained... and overall depressed, I went to my room and slept away.

When I came down, my parents were already home. I looked at my dad. 'Oh boy...' I thought, thinking that he'd scold me for the horrible lunch. But he was silent. So I thought that he must've not eaten it.

My mom wasn't helpful. "So you burnt the food?" she asked, with a sly smile. I cringed. She then teased me endlessly about my bad cooking.

And then, out of nowhere, Grampa asked, "Who cooked today? Very nice..." Then he went on and on about good food and who in his family used to cook so well. My dad was boasting, "My daughter can now open a restaurant!"

My mother and I was so shocked, we resorted to laughing, which of course confused my grandfather and my dad. When we explained to my father, he merely laughed and said, "I didn't complain. So I guess it's good anyway..." ^^

I've been cooking since then. Simple things most of the time... But I don't think I could ever forget the time I burnt Vindaloo and how my grandfather and father enjoyed it. Lol!!!

Take care and God bless.
